He need not be an athlete like him. But the guy should have an athlete’s discipline and character. Tin saw how her dad practices clean living , forges on even when the game gets tough, and most of all, takes good care the family.

Pieces of advice

"The Captain," as he is also called, is never wanting when it comes to giving his daughter pieces of advice.

“Sabi niya, I should be nice without being plastic, especially sa mga fans na tumutulong sa akin,” Tin relates.

Alvin also told Tin to continue developing her fighting spirit.

“Huwag lang  daw ako mag-give up. Laban lang ng laban. Dapat may sportsmanship,” Tin said in a phone interview.

Tennis player-boyfriend

That’s why she retweeted the motivational quote, “If you believe in yourself, have dedication, pride, and that never quit attitude, you'll be a winner.”

Tin admits that she never had a non-athlete for a boyfriend.  Her present love seems to have the qualities she is looking for in a husband. He's a tennis player she's been in a relationship with for one-and-a-half years.

Since they have the same passion, Tin and her boyfriend help each other grow as athletes and as individuals.

“We talk about kung  sinong kalaban (sa game). Nag-iisip kami ng strategies to enhance our game. Nanonood kami ng game ng isa’t isa.  Sinasabi nya kung saan ako nagkamali at ganon din ako sa kanya,” Tin reveals.

Childhood friends

She and her 24-year-old boyfriend (Tin is 22) don’t go out-of-town or attend parties the day or the night before a game.  They know that’s courting disaster the next day. A quiet dinner is fine.

Neither do they fight when Tin goes home late because the guy knows practices can stretch for long hours.

The couple is no stranger to each other’s families.  They have known each other since childhood. They  first met as junior players in a tennis court in Subic. Tin was 11 and he, 13.

It goes without saying that Alvin knows the guy and is on the same wave length as he is when they discuss sports. Thus, Tin has no problems about Alvin getting along with her boyfriend when he visits her at home.

Sports and showbiz

The relationship may be serious, but getting married is another issue.  Tin wants to finish her marketing management studies at National University before choosing between sports and showbiz.

The former PBB Unlimited housemate dreams of having a commercial or print ad.  Her long-term goal is putting up a business related to sports.

Whatever it is, her dad – the entire family and her supporters, the RackeTINers will always be behind Tin to make sure she wins – all the time.
