Tom Rodriguez pursues Carla Abellana despite busy sched
A crazy work schedule won’t stop Tom Rodriguez from pursuing Carla Abellana.
Thanks to flowers, music and a poem he personally wrote, the 26-year-old actor has found a way to express his interest in her “My Destiny” co-star even while their schedule limits them from seeing each other outside work.
"It’s hard to find time to (hang out),” he said after being launched as one of the Benchsetters who will debut at “The Naked Truth” underwear show on September 19 at the Mall of Asia Arena. "Nanunuyo ako, pumoporma pero hanggang dun pa lang.”
Very dear and special
The Kapuso stars are single after breaking up with their respective exes early this year: Carla announced her breakup with Geoff Eigenmann, her boyfriend of nearly four years, last April; while Tom admitted last June that he and singer-actress K-la Rivera are no longer together.
"She’s very dear and special to me. I really enjoy working with her,” he said of Carla.
Tom added, "Sa ngayon I’ve learned na I wouldn’t like to rush into things. But if ever naman Carla and I’s friendship ever develop into something I would be a lucky guy indeed.”
Tom also shrugged off criticisms that he’s quick to move from one relationship to the next.
"Those things you can’t plan. Kusa na lang tinitimbrehan. I’m sure, on her end, ina-assess niya [at] ganun din ako. I can’t speak for her, but for me it’s hard to rush into things."
Juggling work, endorsements
The Kapuso actor knows he has a lot to thank for, especially since his transfer to GMA-7 is seen as a good career move.
"I’ve been so blessed. Sobrang sinwerte ako kaya nagpapasalamat ako sa Panginoon, sa GMA, sa manager ko kay Popoy (Caritativo).”
Aside from his ongoing primetime series with Carla, Tom is about to host for the first time via the game show “Don’t Lose the Money.”
"Sa ngayon naka-focus ako sa Don’t Lose the Money kasi it’s a big, challenging and new task.”
Serious workout
Meanwhile, Tom lamented that working for 24 hours straight at times has taken its toll on his effort to beef up for the underwear show.
“Sa ngayon lahat ng naipondo kong workout nawala dahil sa puyat at dire-diretsong taping.”
Good thing he found the rhythm a few weeks ago for walking at the runway without his pants on.
"Nagagamay ko na (hectic schedule) kaya kahit papa’no nakaka-daya ako ng oras para makapag-work out… either nagdadala ko ng dumbbell sa set, mga gano’n."
He concluded, "Mas tatadtarin ko pa ngayon para ma-achieve ko ‘yung ideal body ko for September 19."
