Trend alert: Kidswear's walk on the wild side

Introducing Armanimals -- Armani Junior's new range of fun animal-themed t-shirts and baby grows for loveable little monsters. This season, they're not the only ones tapping the trend...

For the luxury label, award-winning young illustrator Emiliano Ponzi has dreamed up five cotton t-shirts for boys and five t-shirts for girls (aged 6 months to 16 years), as well as six newborn bodysuits in stretch cotton.

The cute garments are decorated with prints of funny animals and with the wording "Armanimals".

Each piece is sold with a small book produced by children's publisher Corrani Editions, about the character illustrated on the t-shirt. The book creates playful interaction between fairy tales and garments, revealing the hidden story behind each character.

The simple fun stories are about five pairs of animals that meet: a crocodile and a giraffe, a gorilla and a leopard, a parrot and a cat, a deer and a flamingo, and a penguin and a dog. The style is light-hearted and surreal.

The Armanimals gift box is currently on sale at Armani Junior sales outlets. Prices range from 77 to 93 euros.

Armani isn't the only one showing animals some love this Spring. Trendy Swedish childrenswear label Mini Rodini have designed an oh-so-sweet capsule collection for Parisian concept store Colette.

Style-conscious mums and dads will love the limited edition organic t-shirts and sweatshirts. On sale at Paris's Colette and at www.minirodini.com

Spanish designer kidswear label Tuc Tuc's latest Spring range available at Kids&Chic offers a wealth of bright, beach-friendly animal-themed pieces. Spring/Summer inspirations include marine treasures, sea life and ice cream designs, featuring ice cream-licking lions.

Scandinavian brands Musukaat and Blaa! worked ants, ladybirds, squirrels and hedgehogs into their crazy all-over woodland prints in collections of rompersuits and kids' essentials in this Spring's on-trend muted 70s tones.

The animal kingdom was the starting point for Belgian label Woody's glow-in-the-dark sleepwear collection for Spring. Hip chickens, ants, and world cup "teeth-brushing" qualifying crocodiles crop up in the colorful pyjama sets (age 2-4 years), which are sold with a free toothbrush.
