On April 3 on Twitter, news spreads of Scottish author Iain Banks's illness and the death of Mariví Bilbao. 

On Wednesday renowned Scottish author Iain Banks announced to the media that he is suffering from gall bladder cancer and is unlikely to live longer than a year. Banks's original statement has been posted on a website dedicate to the author at friends.banksophilia.com.

Banks made his literary debut in 1984 with "The Wasp Factory" and is currently working on his latest novel, "Quarry," which he has said will be his last. Twitter users are sharing the news and passing on their best wishes to Banks, causing the author's name to trend in fourth position.

 Also on Twitter today microbloggers are mourning the death of Spanish actress Mariví Bilbao at the age of 83. The actress's last role had been in 2011's "Maktub" directed by Paco Arango.
