US Millennials slow to leave the nest: study

More Millennials are living in their parents' houses despite an improved employment situation, according to recent research

Despite a recovering economy in the US and increased hope for young adults in the labor market there, only 67 percent of Millennials live on their own, according to a recent study by the Pew Research Center.

The national unemployment rate for Millennials declined to 7.7 percent during the first four months of this year, a marked upturn from 2010 when 12.4 percent were unemployed in that age group.

However 69 percent of Millennials lived independently in 2010 despite the higher unemployment rate.

The study focused on the 18 to 34 year old set, and concluded that they are less likely to leave the nest and establish their own households than they were during the Great Recession of the 1930s.
