Vhong Navarro to undergo surgery following brutal attack; continues to receive threats

(UPDATE 2) Comedian-TV host Vhong Navarro will take a showbiz break as he recovers from a brutal attack inside a condominium in Bonifacio Global City on January 22 (Wednesday).
 
His manager Chito Roño told Yahoo Philippines OMG! Friday night the "It's Showtime" host is scheduled to undergo surgery next week following the attack.

"It will take time before he recovers," Roño said in an email.

The manager also related that Vhong "was not able to give any money" when the men tried to extort some cash from the actor.

The comedian, however, continues to receive threats via text messages, according to Roño.
 
The extent of his injuries remain sketchy, but in a statement sent to ABS-CBN News, the director-manager said Vho has been tied, blindfolded and beaten up by a group of men after entering the premises of a condominium on Wednesday.

The actor was said to be invited by a still unidentified woman to come over the unit.
 
"Si Vhong Navarro ay naimbitihan sa isang condominium unit sa Fort ng isang kaibigang babae. At sa di pa malamang kadahilanan, siya ay piniringan, pinagtulungang bugbugin, ginapos, tinakot, at hinihingan ng pera ng isang grupo ng kalalakihan noong January 22, Miyerkules," Rono said in a statement.
 
He added, "Si Vhong ay kasalukuyang nagpapagaling at mawawala ng pansamantala sa 'It's Showtime' at iba pa niyang proyekto."
 
It can be recalled that Vhong is keeping mum on his relationship with his non-showbiz girlfriend of four years.
 
“Hindi naman (sa secretive), umamin naman ako na may girlfriend ako. Hindi kasi siya showbiz kaya ayaw kong guluhin or pag-usapan ang buhay niya kasi maganda na nananahimik,” Vhong said.
 
Vhong has two sons and was previously married to actress Bianca Lapus. Their marriage has been annulled in 2010.
 
“Kailan pa lang natapos ang annulment. Ang tagal ng inantay ko, eight years rin ang inantay ko para lang magkaroon kami ng freedom pareho. Kaya ngayon, nakafocus ako sa anak ko. At yung mahal ko sa buhay nagkakaintindihan kami.”
