About 214,286 votes favored the box-office comedian to win the first Social Media Star of the Year, a new category at the 4th Yahoo Celebrity Awards.

Vice Ganda, who stole the Yahoo Awards show with his "loom band-inspired" outfit, outperformed other heavyweights nominated in the said category.

Team Kramers ranked 2nd with 77,316 votes. The family of cager Doug Kramer, former actress Cheska Garcia and their kids Kendra, Scarlett and Gavin compose social media’s newest craze.

Anne Curtis, Vice's co-host in “It’s Showtime” and the most followed local celebrity on Twitter, is at third spot with 76,096 votes.

Kris Aquino and Ramon Bautista ranked 4th and 5th with 60,757 and 27,512 votes, respectively.

Overall, almost half a million (455,967) votes were tallied in the category that recognizes the most talked-about celebrity on social media.

Thanks to Little Ponies

The TV-movie star has been dominating the social media world for years—thanks largely to his legion of fans he fondly calls “Little Ponies.”

His fan base remains one of the strongest and most active online. “Little Ponies” was also nominated as Fan Club of the Year, but lost to KimXi, fan club of Kim Chiu and Xian Lim.

To date, Vice Ganda’s fans keep having the gay comedian’s show “Gandang Gabi, Vice!” trend every single week for three years now.

#YahooAwards veteran

Vice is no stranger to Yahoo Celebrity Awards’ winning circle. In fact, he’s been a consistent winner as Comedian of the Year since the annual awards began in 2011.

The biggest fan-driven awards has seen a record-breaking number of votes this year. Over 17 million votes were tallied during the 5-week poll, almost double than last year’s 9 million.
