Vice Ganda vs. Anne Curtis as ‘unkabogable’ box-office star

There are reasons stand-up comedian Vice Ganda earned the moniker "unkabogable” or unbeatable.

His TV shows "Showtime" and "Gandang Gabi Vice" are rating. His concerts at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum are sold out and his movie "Petrang Kabayo" is a box-office hit.

Vice has a challenger though—his "Showtime" co-host Anne "Bisyosa" Curtis whose film "No Other Woman" under Star Cinema and Viva Films also turned her "unkabogable" at the box-office. According to Star Cinema, the movie  has grossed P258 million.

But Vice may be hot on her heels as well with his new movie, "The Unkabogable Praybeyt Benjamin" which will open nationwide on Oct. 26.

"Huwag naman ganung pressure. Feeling ko rin magiging hit ang pelikulang ito pero ayaw ko ring i-pressure ang sarili ko na dapat matalo ko ang movie ni Anne," said Vice.

Projects better than his last

What he’s confident about is that his new movie is "better" than his debut "Petrang Kabayo."  That's just how Vice works: making sure present projects are better than the last.

But he never makes long-term plans about these things. "I just live by the day,” he confessed. “What I have at the moment I make sure na papagandahin ko yung pagkakataon na yun. Unconceivable lahat po ito kasi ibinigay lang. Sa next project ko, pagsasama-samahin namin ang efforts and talents and lahat siguro ng mga ginawa namin sa 'Petrang Kabayo' and 'Praybeyt Benjamin,' gagawin namin sa next movie ko."

More than the goal of making it big at the box-office, Vice always looks forward to working with vets of the screen. In “Praybeyt Benjamin” he shares screen time with "Eat Bulaga's" Jimmy Santos who plays his father, as well as the multi-awarded Eddie Garcia.

Don’t try too hard

Did he put extra effort in his  acting to be at the same level with them?

"Not really. I was just being myself the whole time. Kasi kapag pinipilit kong mag-exert ng extra effort para ma-impress sila, nagmumukha akong stiff, my effort fail. I just relaxed, be myself and dun na lang na-appreciate nila ako ng mga idol ko," he said.

Also in "Praybeyt Benjamin" are Derek Ramsay, Vandolph, DJ Durano, Nikki Valdez, Malou de Guzman, Carlos Agassi, Kean Cipriano and  Bodie Cruz. The movie is directed by Wenn Deramas.

Whether or not Vice beats Anne "Bisyosa" Curtis for the "unkabogable box-office queen," he is already declared himself a winner when he said, “I'm very proud of this movie!"
