Where does JC go from here?

JC de Vera is at a critical point in his career. His TV5 contract ended  in March. His contract with manager Annabelle Rama will expire by end of May.

Where is he going from here? JC was honest enough to say that he himself doesn’t know.

“Hindi  ko alam kung saan ako pupunta by May or June,” he said in an interview after the presscon of TV5’s  primetime fantaserye “Cassandra.”

The problem, he explains, is that there are so many things to think of  before he decides on whether he will stick it out with TV5, return to GMA 7 or move to ABS-CBN. It’s not just JC’s career that’s at stake here. It’s his personal life.

“Kapag gumawa ako ng deciison by end of May, yon na ang  magiging takbo ng buong buhay ko. I can plan for my future – like having a family,  a baby, a  business. Hindi  ko sinasabi na aalis na ako kay Tita Anabelle at  gustong gusto ko ng umalis. Main focus ko ngayon at kug anong pwede kong gawin for the future.”

Loyalty

JC is not talking to any network besides TV5 out of loyalty to the Kapatid station, although the said network, he says, is not keeping him from entertaining other offers.

“Pangit namang isiping nakikipag-usap ako (sa iba) ngayong binigyan ako ng show sa TV 5. Ayaw kong mag-bypass kahit sino. As long as nagbibigay sa akin ng projects na ganito, tingin ko I will stay here.”

He’s just being practical about the future.

The 27-year-old JC  also knows that his  parents are not getting any younger, and are looking forward to having grandchildren. So he wants a steady source of good income for himself and his family.

Right now, things hang in the balance. JC admits he didn’t know where to seek help in promoting  the April issue of “Garage” magazine, where he is on the cover.

He didn’t want to interrupt Annabelle’s campaign sorties in Cebu, where  she is running for congressman. But JC figured the cover would keep him highly visible to a select group of readers. So he finally said yes.

Those abs a shirtless JC flaunts on the magazine cover are a product of hard work. While waiting for his next assignment to come along, JC huffed and puffed in the gym for two months.

‘Wala akong ibang libangan noon,” he recalls.

Blessing in disguise

The work-outs made him lose 10 pounds.  More than that,  they  turned out to be    blessings in disguise. The offer to do “Cassandra,” where he plays lead character Eula Caballero’s blind trainer came along.

“Kailangan kong magmukhang malakas  dito,” he relates. “So sakto talaga.”
The leading man role also shows JC’s to-die-for  abs once more, this time for televiewers to see. Since he plays a blind character, JC’s role is something he can sink his teeth into.

No wonder, he is grateful to TV5 for letting him grow as an artist.

“Thankful ako sa opportunities na binigay nila sa kin sa hosting, at ang chance to do action, comedy and now fantaseryes.”

Still, you can’t blame him for wanting more – out of his career and consequently – his life.

Now, to the question, where to, JC?

Your guess is as good as mine. JC will have the  answer by June, at the latest. Stay tuned!
