Why Toni Gonzaga isn't settling down - yet

“The Voice of the Philippines” host Toni Gonzaga  is in no rush to get married. She’s  enjoying her career and her role as supportive girlfriend to  director Paul Soriano, her  boyfriend of five years.

“Naalala ko nung ininterview si Beyonce, it took them seven (7) years before they tied the knot. Sabi niya 'you have to have your own life before you become someone else's wife'. So, I'm enjoying my life now before I become someone's wife,” Toni said at the press conference of reality singing contest “The Voice of the Philippines” on Thursday, February 7.

Although she and Paul are of marrying age, Toni said they are still waiting for the right time to tie the knot.  She also denied that she’s already  engaged.

“Hindi naman ako naiinip. Actually siya din. Nae-enjoy niya din na he has his own space and time and ako din meron sa trabaho.”

Toni is sure she has found Mr. Right in  Paul. She also thinks he is the answer to her prayers.

“I entered this relationship hind para sa trial and error, testing then palit agad. I'm committed to this and I promise myself in God's grace na you'll be the same man I'll say yes to,” she said.

Is her family open to the idea of her getting married?

“I think okay na din sila. Nung una parang hindi pa masyado. Ngayon, okay na sila kasi nakarating na din naman ako sa edad na okay naman. May tiwala din sila.”

Despite her  busy schedule, Toni makes sure  she has time for Paul, whom she describes as a “very supportive” boyfriend because he understands the demands of her job as a TV host-actress.

“We always make time for each other. Siguro one of the reasons why we lasted this long is because we are always excited to see each other kasi limited yung time. So, pag magkasama kami we have so much to talk about.”

'The Voice of the Philippines'

Toni is excited about hosting “The Voice of the Philippines.”

“Mas nai-excite ako because I’m looking forward to the contestants, yung mga talents na madidiscover naming. Excited rin ako sa mga judges, sa mga banters nila and how they will train. It’s a fun show. Ayaw naming siyang bigatan or komplikado, we will show it as it is at yung talent ng mga Pilipino.”

The panel of judges  has  not yet been finalized, but ABS-CBN  has announced that Sarah Geronimo will be one of them. While comparisons with the US version is inevitable, Toni assures viewers that they will have the “best line of coaches.”

“Iyan rin ang mga concern ko, na baka people will try to compare The Voice US and Philippines kasi maghahanap tayo kung sino si Cristina Aguillera, sino si Blake, sino si Ceelo, si Adam Levine. One thing I assure  everyone,  we will have the best among the best.”
