Is Carla Abellana ready for more daring roles?

Although Carla Abellana recently tackled a role more risqué than what she’s used to in the movie, “My Neighbor's Wife,” the Kapuso actress has reverted to her default demure image.

“Ayoko na munang mag love scene-love scene, mag-bikini. Ayoko na muna,” she told members of the press during the press conference held Tuesday, Sept. 13 for her new teleserye, “Kung Aagawin Mo ang Langit.”

While she says the material she’s presented will determine if she’s swayed into doing more daring roles, she said people have told her, “Why stop there? Dahil ang ganda ng material, we should make more movies like that.”

Playing a more assertive character

But, Carla’s TV projects with GMA Network have also given her the opportunity to expand her talents. In her new afternoon teleserye, “Kung Aagawin Mo ang Langit,” the 25-year-old plays wife to Mike Tan, who she first worked with in her debut project, “Rosalinda.”

“Hindi naman masyado itong adult,” she explained. “Sa iba ko namang soap, I've portrayed a wife and a mother already. Ang layo nito sa pelikulang ginawa ko. Kasi dito, napakainosente ng story e. Hindi naman ito tungkol sa lovers, e.”

In the series, Carla’s character resorts to in vitro fertilization to become pregnant.

“Sanay kasi yung fans na napapanood nilang pag sa soap opera, kawawa ako, api-apihan. Dito, ako naman ang maghihiganti,” Carla said. “Di naman kontrabida pero she will fight for what's rightfully hers.”

High ratings of afternoon soaps

Did she feel any pressure headlining an afternoon soap?

“Wala namang pressure. Wala namang nababanggit na ratings factor. Di naman yun yung worry namin,” she said. “Actually we are even prouder to be part of ‘Dramarama’ (GMA’s afternoon  soap block) kasi ang taas ng ratings e, panalo talaga. Saka iba yung experience, sobrang rewarding.”

Of being reunited with Mike Tan, who plays her husband, Carla said, “Proud ako kay Mike. Happy ako na kay Mike napunta kasi although nagkatrabaho na kami ni Mike before, ang laki ng pinagbago niya. Kasi nagthea-theater na siya ngayon e. So nu’ng nagwo-workshop kami, nagulat ako sa kanya na may mga dala na siya, may mga pinakita siyang bago. It's about time na rin. Gawin lang niya ang best niya at mapapansin agad ng tao yun.”

“Kung Aagawin Mo ang Langit” will premiere on Monday, Sept. 19, on GMA's Dramarama sa Hapon.
