Windy City to perform Korean reggae at Sierra Nevada World Music Festival


[by Joy Kim] Korean reggae band Windy City was invited to world class reggae festival, Sierra Nevada World Music Festival 2013 and showed great performances.


Windy city was only band from Asia to be invited to the event. Sierra Nevada World Music Festival held at Boonvill, in United States. The festival has 20 years of history. For the line ups, Damian Marley the son of Bob Marley was the head liner.


The band was on stage at both 22nd and 23rd of June at Village Stage and Valley Stage. They were the first Korean team to be on the stage of Sierra Nevada World Music Festival and only Asian team invited to the event.


Windy city performed songs from their album ‘Full Greetings’ including ‘Janchi Reggae’. ‘Full Greetings’, and famous song ‘It’s you. Also they have prepared special repertoires such as ‘Sacheolga’, ‘Arirang’ , and ‘Gangkang Suwollae’ from Korean traditional music. The crowds were impressed by the band’s music and left comments that Windy City’ s performance was spiritual.


The band’s tour was supported by APaMM (Asia Pacific Music Meeting), Korea’s first music market also supported by the Ministy of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Korea. According to APaMM, after Windy City’s performances the reaction from the crowds and staffs were amazing. All of the records were sold and other labels and magazines showed great interests.


According to the festival director Warrn Smith, he had his feeling when he first saw the band at 2012 APaMM and now he feels honored to introduce the band to United States and he expects more to the band.


Meanwhile, Windy City had one more performance at a club in San Francisco on 25th of June and plans to return to Korea. (photo by APaMM)
