After the seemingly never-ending barrage of activities this Yuletide season, Congresswoman Lani Mercado plans to take a breather.
''Ang plano natin ay magpahinga,'' Lani said during the Christmas party she and Senator Bong Revilla hosted for the movie press.
''Pahinga muna kasi so far medyo nagkasakit tayo a few days ago. Si Senator Bong, bugbog din sa taping niya sa 'Indio' dahil tinatapos niya ito; tapos nasa Senado rin siya. It would be more for family. Kumbaga, kailangang mag-unwind,'' she said.
The Revillas' Christmas celebration will be ''the usual.''
'''Pag Pasko, ano, sa pamilya lahat present. Tapos 'pag New Year, toka naman ng father-in-law ko. The usual, nag-e-exchange gift kami,'' she said.
That said, Lani is truly thankful these days for the best Christmas gift her family her received so far - from Gianna's budding showbiz career and Jolo's evident passion and dedication to public service. For this, her advice to her children is: manage your time well!
This advice is close to Lani's heart. When she was elected as the Representative of Bacoor, Cavite, her time management skill has proven to be useful for her to successfully fulfill all her duties as a public servant, a family matriarch, and a showbiz personality.
''Lagi namin pinapayuhan ni Bong si Gianna because she is a graduating student and she is entering college next year. Basta ang rule namin, mag-showbiz ka pero huwag pababayaan ang pag-aaral,'' said Lani.
The 17-year-old Gianna is the second daughter of Sen. Bong and Lani to enter showbiz. She is now in GMA-7's youth-oriented show ''Teen Gen'' where she plays the role of Madison. (Their first daughter to try out showbiz was Ynah, who later decided to settle down and is now planning to take up law.)
''Plano talaga namin after college payagan si Gianna mag-showbiz. Kaso maraming nag-advice na mas maganda habang nasa high school pa lang at habang teenager pa para at least madaanan niya 'yung stage na 'yun. Kasi once she graduates from college, adult roles kaagad isasabak sa kaniya,'' shared Lani.
''She might be pressured kaagad. Since the taping of 'Teen Gen' is on weekends and it's handled by director Mark Reyes, kampante ako sa pag-aalaga ng GMA-7 sa kanya,'' she added.
Lani is also happy that her daughter Gianna is enjoying her acting job. She revealed that Gianna told her that showbiz is tiring but very fulfilling.
''Siya lang talaga ang artistahin kaya she is having a good time. She's really a performer na nakitaan na namin siya ever since she was small. She is also enjoying the company of 'Teen Gen' cast and her exposure in it. But like what I always tell her, try to manage your time properly kasi mahirap pagsabayin ang pag-aaral at pag-aartista.''
As for Jolo, she is amazed at how busy and committed her son is nowadays in Cavite. The way Jolo handle things as a politician makes her proud.
''Lalo na at Board Member siya sa Cavite at pangulo ng Liga ng Baranggay sa Cavite tapos Executive Vice President ng Liga ng Barangay sa buong Pilipinas, kailangan talaga ang time management. Pero mahusay siya siguro dahil pangarap niya noong bata pa siya ang maging public servant. May sariling diskarte at karisma sa mga tao,'' described Lani.
As to rumors that Jolo and Jodi are planning to get married soon, she said she never heard from Jolo about it.
The surprised actress-politician quipped, ''May gano'n?''
''Wala pa namang gano'ng nagaganap. Na-ano ako! Christmas gift ba 'yon? Hindi ko alam. Wala pa namang gano'ng pangyayari. Sa tingin ko pinu-pursue pa niya 'yung kanyang dream para maging isang public servant. Siguro career din muna 'yung iisipin nila parehas. Give them time.''
She likewise noted that settling down is also about proper timing.
