Xbox One spot focuses on TV, Skype, NFL

Did you think that the Xbox was a games machine? Think again, suggests Microsoft, in the North American TV commercial for November 22's brand new Xbox One.

Big game integration with fantasy football and player stats, voice-controlled navigation, video calls nestled next to TV content and exquisitely decorated living spaces populated by handsome young adults fill an ad that coincides with the start of the NFL season.

YouTube reaction was mixed: some were repulsed by the lack of video game content or the Xbox Live paywall, some concerned over the sturdiness of TV-related content for those outside North America, but others expressed appreciation for the console's multi-media capabilities: "The Xbox One is a gaming console, but it can do all that and much much much more."

The Xbox One releases on November 22 for $499 in 13 countries including the USA, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, territories in Central and Western Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

Fellow digital entertainment debutant the PlayStation 4 is to launch for $399 in North America on November 15 and then in European, Australasian, and Latin American countries on November 29.
