Xian as Bb. Pilipinas host: Exciting, but there’s room for improvement

Hosting a big event like the Bb. Pilipinas coronation night is a big feat for most celebrities like actor-singer Xian Lim, who tried his hand in hosting the beauty pageant for the first time on Sunday, April 15 at the Big Dome.

Xian found his first big hosting stint “an exciting experience,” but admits there’s still room for improvement.  His co-hosts–whom he described as “very beautiful”–were Iza Calzado, Venus Raj, and Georgina Wilson.

“Sobrang nakakatuwa ‘yung experience kasi since I started, gusto ko talagang mag-host. Di ba, binigyan kaagad ako ng Binibining Pilipinas? So that was really an exciting experience,” Xian said in an interview during his visit at Mc Donald’s Katipunan on Monday, April 16.

Mixed reactions

Xian got mixed reactions about his hosting job. Many admired his performance, given that it was his first time to host the show. Others criticized his hosting and reading of spiels.

“Andoon yung kaba, andoon rin yung excitement. Siyempre, there’s still room for improvement. That was my first time to host that kind of big event,” Xian reacted to the criticism regarding his hosting.

“Sige, hayaan mo, sasabihin ko sa kanila, next time hindi ko na babasahin,” he said in jest.

Is there pressure to always be on his toes?

“I can’t really please everyone. What all I can do is just enjoy what I’m doing and I’m doing what I love. If I’m enjoying, I’m sure other will enjoy din naman. Kung hindi sila nag-enjoy, baka next time mag-enjoy naman sila,” Xian replied.

Kim Chiu

Xian thanks his “My Binondo Girl” female lead Kim Chiu for helping him in his showbiz journey.

“Itong journey na ito, syempre Kim and I worked together. We’re good friends and a really good friendship blossomed after the soap di ba?”

He denied accusations that he’s using Kim to boost his popularity.

“We’re a team. Wala namang ‘I’ sa team. We’re always working together, ‘yung comfortability namin or trust for each other, dapat nandoon iyon,” he said.

Xian’s tandem with Kim in “My Binondo Girl” was so successful, it spawmed big fan bases like  KimXi, Xianatics, and Friends of Xian.

“I’m thankful sa lahat ng nangyayari. Syempre there’s no ‘I.’ Tulungan po iyan. Siyempre, thankful po ako na may umusbong na mga fan club. Kasi, if it wasn’t a team, KimXi won’t be KimXi,” Xian relates.

First solo album

Now that he’s on a roll, the  new “It Boy” wants to seize all the opportunities coming his way.

“I enjoy what they’re giving me, the opportunity. Siguro popularity follows. But it’s not that I’m doing it for the popularity. I’m doing it to touch people’s hearts. I just keep on enjoying it,” he said.

Aside from filming “The Reunion,” Xian is coming up with his first solo album this April 30. He shared that there’s no particular song for someone since he wants everyone to relate to the album.

“It’s another field I’m going to tackle. Andito yung excitement. Iba’t ibang feeling, iba’t ibang adrenaline rush. As much as possible, gusto kong gawin at gawin ‘yung mga binibigay sa akin. Nagi-enjoy ako. Nandoon ‘yung passion, nandoon ‘yung fire,” he said.
