Yael Yuzon wants a year-end baby

If Spongecola vocalist would have his way, his first child by wife Karylle would be a “Ber” baby, or born
anytime during the cool months of September to December.

“Gusto ko, latter part of the year, para sa batch niya, siya ang mas matanda,” Yael said after the storycon of
“Shake Rattle and Roll XV,” Regal Entertainment’s entry to the Metro Manila Filmfest.

Speaking from experience

Yael is speaking from experience.

“Sa school, mas matanda ako sa classmates ko. Advantage yon kasi madali maging leader.”

The couple doesn’t plan to have many kids. So Yael wants his son or daughter to shine as soon as he or she starts school at age eight or nine.

More open

What if Karylle delivers their first baby at the start of the year, during summer or even the rainy season?
No problem, Yael replies.  He’ll feel just as blessed. The baby will be a welcome addition to his and
Karylle’s happy life.

Unlike before, when he talked sparingly about his private life, Yael is more open about what he is offstage.

“Married life is great! I’m very happy. Even when we were together as boyfriend-girlfriend, I always treated
her (Karylle) like that. It’s a serious thing, not the fun kind. Things just got better now.”

Movie debut

Yael adds that the only thing that changed after they tied the knot is that he and Karylle now go home to the
same house and that they have changed the way they fill up forms.

“She now puts ‘Mrs.’ beside her name.  When we apply for a visa, it’s now Mr. and Mrs.”

Yael has another reason to rejoice,  He will make his movie debut in a film franchise he has adored since
childhood: Shake Rattle and Roll XV.

Yael recalls how, at seven, he can’t get enough of Shake Rattle and Roll II,  the Tricycle Driver episode starring Richard Gomez and Ana Roces.

And now that he was offered to play a rock star in the last installment of the franchise, Yael can’t say no. He
fixed his busy Spongecola schedule so he can attend the horror movie’s shootings, story conference and
presscons.

Dream come true

“Doing the movie 23 years after I saw it is a dream come true,” he explains.

What makes it more exciting is that filmmaking is dear to Yael’s heart.

“I’ve always been connected to film,” Yael explains. “Many of my friends worked in indie movies.  Sila ang
gumagawa ng music videos namin.”

No wonder Yael has always felt part of the film industry, whether behind the scenes or as a spectator.
Acting is another field close to his heart. Yael reveals that he’s fond of ensemble acting. He even tried
theater in high school.

Now that he’s on the verge of a movie acting experience, Yael can’t wait. Chances are he’ll give Shake Rattle and Roll XV all he’s got.

Who knows, we might have a new addition to the growing list of actor-singers in our midst.
