Yahoo! OMG! Awards 2012: How the voting unfolded

The winners have been revealed.

But who among the current crop of winners in this year’s Yahoo! OMG! Awards, held at the Mall of Asia Arena on Friday, July 6, got the most number of votes? And who got the most number of text votes?

Highest votes

Among the nominees, it was Kapamilya stars Xian Lim and Kim Chiu who really got the fans voting.

As nominees of the Love Team of the Year category, Xian and Kim got 182,007 total online and text votes—the highest total votes of all nominees in all categories.

Not surprisingly, the fans who made the Xian-Kim victory happen also won the Fan Club of the Year category. With 157,997 total votes, the KimXi fan club received the second highest votes in this year’s Yahoo! OMG! Awards.

The third highest vote goes to Kim Chiu in the Breakthrough Actress category with 155,899 total votes.

Another Kapamilya star got the fourth highest vote—but it isn’t Xian Lim. Coco Martin won Actor of the Year with 154,286 votes.

Sarah Geronimo, with 132,768 votes in the Female Singer of the Year category, got the fifth highest vote.

Xian Lim got 130,802 votes (Breakthrough Actor of the Year) and Vilma Santos got 102,827 total votes (Major Impact award).

Text vs. online voting

The 2nd Yahoo! OMG! Awards introduced text voting in the mix. Fans were able to use their Sun Cellular mobile phones to vote for their favorite stars.

Expectedly, Xian Lim and Kim Chiu ruled in terms of text votes. In the Love Team of the Year category, they received 19,406 votes—the highest text votes received this year. But Gerald Anderson and Sarah Geronimo got 11,001 votes, far from the winner’s garnered votes but second overall among total text votes.

Both nominees were the only ones to receive more than 10,000 votes in the text polls.

In the Fan Club of the Year category, the Ashrald fan club received 7,621 text votes, while KimXi got only 6,847. This makes Ashrald the nominee to receive the third highest text votes.

It was WLS FM 97.1 (BEST FM Radio Station) who got the fourth highest text votes.

The KimXi fan club got the fifth highest text votes (Fan Club of the Year) with 6,847.

Total votes

Here are other interesting tidbits of note in the 2012’s edition of the Yahoo! OMG! Awards:

  • The Love Team of the Year category received the highest total votes and highest text votes. But what category got the highest online votes? It was the Female Singer of the Year, which got 349,520 online votes compared to the Love Team of the Year’s 344,658 online votes.

  • The most nominated stars in this year’s Yahoo! OMG! Awards are Anne Curtis and Marian Rivera. Both stars were nominated in the Celebrity of the Year (Anne won), Actress of the Year, It Couple of the Year, and Movie of the Year (“No Other Woman” for Anne and “Temptation Island” for Marian).

  • Not counting the Fan Club of the Year win of KimXi, it is Angel Locsin who won the awards at the 2012 Yahoo! OMG! Awards: Actress of the Year, Movie of the Year (for "Unofficially Yours"), and It Couple of the Year (with Phil Younghusband). Kim Chiu and Xian Lim have two wins each; individually for the Breakthrough Actor and Actress category and, as screen partners, the Love Team of the Year.

  • Five winners this year also won last year in the same category: Parokya ni Edgar (Band of the Year), Christian Bautista (Male Singer of the Year), Luis Manzano (Male TV Host of the Year), Vice Ganda (Comedian of the Year), and Eugene Domingo (Comedienne of the Year).

  • Coco Martin is also a repeat winner this year. He won Male Breakthrough Artist last year and Actor of the Year this year.  Kathryn Bernardo, last year’s Awesome Young Actress, is this year’s Most Promising Actress.

  • The only Kapuso TV/movie star to win in this year’s Yahoo! OMG! Awards? Solenn Heussaff in the Best Female Newcomer category.  Unfortunately, despite the strong standing of Kapatid nominees like Derek Ramsay, Nora Aunor, Sharon Cuneta, and Jasmine Curtis-Smith, no TV5 artist won this year.

  • This year’s Yahoo! OMG! Awards garnered a total of 4,102,720.
