'Yooka-Laylee' game smashes crowdfunding goals

"Yooka-Laylee," an all-new 3D platformer from the creative talent behind the "Banjo-Kazooie" games

The project to back a new 3D platform game which launched on Kickstarter on May 1 hit its initial £175,000 (about US$265,000) funding goal within 40 minutes and has now surged past the £1.3 million (about US$1.9 million) mark to ensure all of its stretch goals, too.

There may be 43 days left to run, but that doesn't matter, "Yooka-Laylee," a 3D adventure game conceived by the same developers that created "Donkey Kong Country" and the cult classic "Banjo-Kazooie" -- will be landing on all major platforms, from the PS4 to the WiiU, as well as the desktop, next October.

The game, which promises stellar platforming gameplay and was pitched to potential backers as a spiritual successor to "Banjo-Kazooie," has now raked in enough to meet all of its ambitious stretch goals, meaning that it will land in all formats simultaneously and will include a quiz mode, multiplayer features and new characters created by guest designers as well as an original soundtrack including a special rap song.
