Five days before Christmas up until around 4 a.m. the following day, 15,000 people jammed the Globe Circuit Event Grounds in Makati City to watch some 70 local acts man the three main stages of this year’s Rakrakan Festival: Rock ‘Til You Drop. In the same attendance ballpark as the fest’s groundbreaking launch last year, fans shuttled between the Move, Groove and Mosh platforms. The metal bands were in your face, the alternative rockers impressed with their musical savvy and the rap acts sent chills with their mix of looney croons and death threats. While the rest of the city slept, the long chilly night at Rakrakan`14 echoed with distortion and syncopation, guts and glory, glamour and passion competing for attention in one sprawling space. It was the year’s biggest gathering of old school idols, new school pretenders and out-of-school-for-the-holidays revelers. What a way to end 2014 with one huge bang for OPM.
