Young stars make their move in ‘Good Vibes’

A new breed of young stars turns up the beat in the ABS-CBN dance-based drama series "Good Vibes," which will start on Sunday, April 3 after "ASAP Rocks. "

In the press conference held last Tuesday, March 29, at The Lounge along Tomas Morato, Quezon City, the cast of young stars, led by Sam Concepcion and Enrique Gil kicked-off the event by dancing to Kenny Loggins's "Footloose," showcasing the drama's theme, which is dance. Other members of the cast, who were mostly graduates of Pinoy Big Brother, got their first introduction to the press as actors. They also discussed their roles and dished out some stories behind the scenes.

Aside from Sam and Enrique, "Good Vibes" stars Ivan Dorschner, James Reid, Chikara Nawa, Yen Santos, Coleen Garcia, Devon Seron, Linn Oeymo, Kazel Kinouchi and Heidi Riego and seasoned actors such as Dominic Ochoa, Yayo Aguila and Maribeth Bichara. "Good Vibes" is set to replace afternoon Sunday drama "Your Song" and is the first dance drama produced by ABS-CBN, which also previously produced the musical drama "Idol."

This new dance drama revolves around the story of half-brothers Marc Pedroza (Sam) and Troy Cabrera (Enrique), who have personal differences but have the same passion, which is dance. Sam plays a perfect son, a model student and the president of the school's dance troupe. On the other hand, Enrique's character is the complete opposite. "Laki s'ya sa hirap. Yung father nya wasn't there most of his life, so malaki ang galit nya. Mabait sya, but has a mysterious side," Enrique shared.

"Good Vibes" also shows different stories about relationships, family and dreams of the dance club members. "We're a dance troupe, and may mga kanya-kanya kaming stories. And since we're a group, that's how we build our friendship and harmony. We tackle issues that teenagers go through on a daily basis and that's how people can relate in the story," Sam shared.

In a drama mainly cast with new actors, does Sam feel any pressure being the most experienced thespian in the group? Sam told Yahoo! OMG Philippines, "Siguro meron din, kung papano ko gagampanan ang role, especially it's a lead role at medyo mabigat din yung pinanggagalingan ng character. Pressured for myself to be able to deliver as Marc. But the cast members are all doing their jobs very well. Our efforts are combined at makakatulong yun sa show namin."

Dominic and Yayo, who used to star in their own youth-oriented shows, gave the showbiz newcomers their piece of advice. "Continue what you've been doing, napaka-swerte nyo kasi many would want to be in your shoes. Wag n'yong sayangin. Magtrabaho kayo ng maayos and have fun while working. Maintain the friendship and be professional," Yayo advised.

Choreographer to the stars Maribeth Bichara doesn't play as a dance teacher in the drama, but in fact as an assistant vice principal who wants to get rid of the dance troupe, completely different from what she does off-cam. This is her first time playing as an antagonist and is proud of the freshness of the drama's story. "Finally, meron tayong youth-oriented show ngayon na pwedeng kapulutan ng aral ng mga kabataan. This is different and we're going to make sure na may leksyon kaming mai-share sa mga bata, mga magulang at sa school," Maribeth said.

Some budding, friendly relationships were revealed in the cast. When asked who among the group they have the most good vibes with, Chikara Nawa topped the popularity vote. "Si Chikara kasi nakakatawa sya and he always plays music," Heidi Riego said, who is also a Philippine All Star member. Most of the girls chose Chikara because of his kindness and funny personality. "Si Chikara, super funny sa set. Mababaw lang ako at lagi akong natatawa sa kanya," former PBB housemate Yen Santos said. Ivan chose Linn, James chose Devon and Sam chose Coleen, which earned cheers and teases from the crowd.

"Good Vibes" premieres on April 3 after "ASAP Rocks."
