At 26, Alodia Gosiengfiao has grown from a Filipina cosplay (or costume play) celebrity to being a model, actress and popular product endorser.

She has graced the cover of FHM Magazine and been voted the 20th sexiest woman of the Philippines in 2012.

Alodia recently added another star to her multi-faceted career by signing up with 12 Stone Inc., home to Barbie Almalbis, Kitchie Nadal and Rocksteddy.

‘Kawaii Girl’

As a singer, she has already built an international fan base mostly of anime enthusiasts with “Kawaii Girl,” which she recorded in Nihongo in Japan.

“The song title means cute in Japanese. It’s about this cute girl who shops at the trendy Shibuya district in Tokyo,” she said during the contract signing with 12 Stone.

The hit song mirrors her fascination with her long-running obsession with Japanese culture. At 15, she started winning cosplay competitions in Manila, which led to an invite to an international gathering of gamers and anime enthusiasts in Japan.

“I was a guest in a convention called Tokyo Game Show,” she said of her first trip to Japan. “I performed together with two other cosplayers from the US and Canada.”

Shuttling between Tokyo and Manila

Alodia now shuttles between Tokyo and Manila for family and professional reasons. This time, she will be staying for a longer while in Manila due to her new contract with 12 Stone.

“I’m super-glad to be with 12 Stone. I’m happy na pagdating ko sa Pilipinas, may opportunity naman ako na gumawa ng Filipino songs, especially original compositions,” she said.

She is eager to move beyond the cover songs of her cosplay performances. But another part of her feels the challenge of debuting in the competitive field of OPM.

Pressure

“There’s pressure because ang dami talagang magagaling ditto,” she confessed. “So for me, dagdagan ko pa ng ganda ng costume at husay ng performance. Joke!!”

While Alodia wants to record varied fare leaning towards upbeat, catchy side of J-pop, she isn’t likely to stray away from what she’s known for.

Still, she can’t hold back the thrill of this next phase in her career.

Album in thumb drive

“Super-excited talaga ako. I look forward to everything that’s gonna happen. Everything’s new to me so I really dunno what to expect. I’m just expecting it to be colorful and fun,” she said.

12 Stone plans to release Alodia’s debut recording on CD and in USB or thumb drives, which will include extras like videos and photos aside from the music. The drive will come in a plastic card the size of an ATM or credit card and pop out with a push.

The USB cards will be made available in storage capacities of 4GB and 8GB.
