Boots Anson-Roa and Atty. Francisco 'King' Rodrigo never expected to marry again after their respective spouses passed away years back.

But they did, in solemn rites at the Archbishop's Palace on Saturday, June 14.

All smiles

The 69-year-old bride was all smiles as she alighted from her white Jaguar bridal car and walked on the red carpet past a canopy of white orchids as the song 'Ikaw' and the classical piece 'Canon in D' played in the background.

Boots wore an Eddie Baddeo gown which the designer gave to Boots as a gift. Baddeo told Yahoo Philippines that the gown is a modern Filipiniana creation with an inner skirt and intricate beadwork.

"Ma'm Boots can carry any oufit well, so I did not make the gown look very elaborate," the well-known designer said.

Baddeo also created King's Barong Tagalog.

The occasion also happened to be King's 75th birthday.

Celebration of faith

Archbishop of Manila Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle, who presided over the ceremony, described the wedding as a celebration of faith and an act of love and of hope.

"Even now I have to convince myself this is not a wedding anniversary," he joked.

Tagle praised the couple for stating in their wedding invitation that instead of gifts, they'd rather that the guests donate any amount they are willing to give to the needy.

Honeymoon in Seoul

The bride and groom decided to compose their own wedding vows.

Among the principal sponsors were Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada, Susan Roces and Marichu Vera-Perez Maceda.

In a media briefing held a few days before the wedding, Boots revealed that she has convinced King to stay in her condo unit in Balete Drive, Quezon City since it is closer to the latter's office in Ortigas Avenue.

The honeymoon is moved to early July because some of the couple's children and grandchildren from abroad are staying in the condo for awhile after the wedding.

King said he will bring Boots to Seoul for the honeymoon because she has not yet been there.

Boots' wedding gift to King is a branded watch from the US while the groom gave his wife a set of jade earrings, ring and necklace.

The wedding reception was held at Wack Wack Golf and Country Club.
