Kris Aquino, other celebs pay respects to fallen SAF commandos
Local celebrities joined the nation in mourning the death of 44 Philippine National Police (PNP) Special Action Force (SAF) commandos killed in a “misencounter” with alleged members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) on Sunday, January 25.
President Noynoy Aquino was absent at the arrival honors for SAF’s fallen commandos on Thursday, January 29, but his sister Kris Aquino visited the wake at Camp Bagong Diwa in the morning of Friday, January 30.
“Pinaalam ko talaga sa kuya ko kung pwede akong pumunta dito. Alam ko din ang pinagdadaanan nila dahil nangyari naman sa akin iyan, nang nawalan ako ng mahal sa buhay sa isang marahas na paraan. At pinaabot ko lang ang pagsisimpatya at pagdarasal,” Kris said in an interview on “Umagang Kay Ganda.”
Heartaches ng mga nanay
Comedy actress Ai-Ai delas Alas also condoled with the slain policemen’s families.
“Yung mga heartaches ng mga nanay, so medyo naluha-luha kasi syempre nanay din ako. Alam ko yung pain ng mawalan ng anak,” she said in the same interview.
Luis Manzano hopes justice is served because the 44 fallen men didn't have any bad intentions.
“When they were asked to protect or any assignment, hindi nila tinanong kung ano ang pupuntahan nila – kung Kristiyano ba o Muslim ba yan. It’s very disappointing and saddening na tayo tayo nagpapatayan when lahat tayo Pilipino. Hopefully justice is served kung sino man ang dapat managot, kung miscommunication ba yan o ano man para di masayang ang pinahirapan ng 44 fallen heroes na yan.”
Other celebrities took to social media to pay tribute to the SAF members.
Bianca Gonzalez tweeted her request for a moment of silence and condolences.

Kim Chiu praised the policemen for being “true heroes of our generation.”
“Just read the news. May God bless the policemen who sacrificed their lives for the service of our country. I salute 44 policemen who died in Maguindanao. True heroes of our generation. Maraming salamat sa inyong serbisyo. Cndolence po sa mga pamilya nila.”
ANC reported that Diether Ocampo went to the wake of the slain SAF commandos.
Prayers for victims and their families
Enchong Dee and Young JV asked everyone to pray for the victims and their families.
“Watching the news and no one deserves this... Lets offer prayers for the family and the ones involved in #PNP-SAF massacre,” Enchong said.
The President is reportedly leading the necrological service on Friday, January 30.
