Miss Earth 2014: Miss Brazil Leticia Silva

What is your environmental advocacy and why did you choose this?

The maintenance of the environment preservation in Iguassu Falls Park. The environmental concern must be associated to all segments inside an environmental reserve. Thus, environment education and leisure must reconcile.

It may start from the tourists. Cars in the park should be forbidden. Access to it can be via a high-tech, non-polluting panoramic bus with its speed controlled to reduce pollutants emitted.

Additionally, we should plant new trees in the woods nearby the parking lot each year. This would compensate for the carbon emission by the enterprise.

It’s essential that the tourist understands the patrimony of mankind: what we inherited is priceless, and should be preserved. As soon as the tourist understands this relation, every visit is no longer a simple act, but becomes a life-long learning experience.

Protecting the Atlantic Forest of Brazil is like protecting its fauna and flora, its rich biodiversity covering an area of 185.262,5 (sic) hectares, and comprising a perimeter of 420km, of which 300km are natural river boundaries of both Brazilian and Argentinian sides. These motivated me to promote the importance to the world of this patrimony value.

Therefore, we should consider millions of years of evolution that made this area one of the most important ecological niches, a hotspot for preservation of all forms of life, besides being one of the most amazing Earth’s experiences and views.

What tip can you share to promote this year's theme, Eco Tourism?

It is fundamental that the tourist understands the importance of an environmental patrimony, so that his visit to a fauna and flora preservation area is not just a ride, but a life-long experience.
