Miss Earth 2014: Miss Colombia Alejandra Villafañe Osorio
What is your environmental advocacy and why did you choose this?
My environmental advocacy is Recicla Por El Arte. Since last year, Miss Earth Colombia and myself have been forming this group of young Colombians to help different communities in resolving and improving their environmental needs. We do this by teaching them how to recycle. The group uses the recycled materials to create art and reuse all the materials they can to lessen waste.
We’re also trying to create new laws to improve the quality of life and force companies and farmers to take care of our land. I choose this advocacy because I really works (sic) hard to promote the recycling of different products by creating beautiful art. I think it's a unique form of helping our planet through education and beauty.
What tip can you share to promote this year's theme, Eco Tourism?
Eco tourism means learning to live together: maintaining a balance between social, economic, and environment interests while respecting and admiring the nature around us.
