Miss Earth 2014: Miss Ghana Nana Ama

What is your environmental advocacy and why did you choose this?

I am an indigene of the Eastern Region of Ghana. She boasts of several natural mineral resources including gold and diamonds. The government of Ghana has made it possible for the small scale mining to be undertaken. However, several groups of people of various nationalities have reported to illegally mining (sic) these resources and raping Ghana of her due. The returns made from this has encouraged boys and girls of school-going age to abandon the class room [and] rather embrace pick axes (sic). More worrisome is the excessive damage done to our environment. Trees are falling without planting (sic).

Water bodies are being polluted. I seek to advocate for safer small-scale mining devoid of child labor.
