Miss Earth 2014: Miss Guam Erin Wong

What is your environmental advocacy and why did you choose this?

Being an 18-year-old, I wanted my environmental advocacy to really center on the youth. Since the youth are the future, I thought: Why not start with them? Speaking and going to schools to encourage them to recycle and limit wastes is one way. However, talking can only do so much and many youth don’t listen, so I want to make recycling fun and a big attraction that the youth will WANT to get involved in.

With the help of YouTube, I want to create a recycling flash mob video; it’s a fun active participating way for the youth to go out and help promote recycling. Since YouTube is a huge medium and accessible all around the world, people from all over will be able to see and support the cause. I plan to create more active participation and fun ways for the youth to be really aware and to be the change for the world.

What tip can you share to promote this year's theme, Eco Tourism?

Spread awareness and incorporate active participation about the environment worldwide through traveling and fun activities, especially for the youth.
