Miss Earth 2014: Miss Reunion Island Lolitta Hoarau
What is your environmental advocacy and why did you choose this?
My advocacy is to share how to travel differently. I study tourism, so I’m aware of consequences of mass tourism. In 2012, the number of tourists [in my country] exceeded one billion for the first time. So the augmentation of this leisure industry have many consequences on the environment, and for a few years, a new tourism had emerged: eco tourism (sic).
This new form of tourism changed our way of traveling, but it seemed like a fad. My advocacy is to show that eco tourism is so much more. It’s a new way of traveling, combining pleasure and responsibility for our Mother Earth.
What tip can you share to promote this year's theme, Eco Tourism?
It’s time for us to be good children: respect, responsibility, awareness, to change our way to travel. (sic)
