Miss Earth 2014: Miss Samoa Natasha Westropp

What is your environmental advocacy and why did you choose this?

My environmental advocacy is to reduce carbon emissions. I believe we have a choice everyday to reduce our carbon footprint, whether it be turning to renewable energy sources, recycling, and implementing waste management plans at home or in the office. These can all help contribute towards creating a more sustainable environment for our Mother Earth!

I chose this advocacy for a personal reason: accordingto Cancer Research Australia, melanoma rates have increased by 300% over the past 30 years. Carbon emissions are contributing to the hole in the ozone layer. I lost someone dear to me to skin cancer, and I believe by working together we can help reduce the number of melanoma diagnoses by reducing our carbon footprint.

What tip can you share to promote this year's theme, Eco Tourism?

We have a choice to reduce our carbon footprint everyday!
