Miss Earth 2014: Miss Sri Lanka Imaya Liyanage
What is your environmental advocacy and why did you choose this?
My environmental advocacy is a project that I do called “Manusath Derana.” This involves working with people affected by kidney disease. This is due to the arsenic content in the soil, which is present in most parts of Central and North Central province in our country.
Thousands have lost their lives and another thousands are suffering from it. So my aim during my reign as Miss Sri Lanka for Miss Earth is to collect 500 sponsors to help 500 kids from the affected families in that region, mainly for their education. This project is something very close to my heart and I would continue fighting for the cause.
What tip can you share to promote this year's theme, Eco Tourism?
Eco tourism conserves biodiversity of the country, helping tourists to enjoy the nature in the purest form. And I, Imaya Miss Sri Lanka for Miss Earth, is proud to say our country has totally dedicated itself to it and won international awards for the work.
