She’s a warrior, she’s a monster, she’s super cosplayer Alodia!

By Tony Maghirang

Alodia Gosiengfiao is the queen of cosplayers in the Philippines and perhaps also the world, with nearly 4.5 million likes on her Facebook page. She’s been playing dress up since 2003 when she was 15, joining an anime costume competition with her sister Ashley, now a noted cosplayer, too.

“We weren’t informed na we have to go onstage and perform,” she says of the experience. “Parang nahihiya pa ako na rarampa ka bigla.” But they learned quickly, leveling up their looks with wigs and full-on makeup in a succeeding anime convention.

“Characters namin from (the video game) Final Fantasy X. I was Rikku and Ashely was Yuna,” Alodia recalls. Her sister Ashley won that competition. “After that, we did a photo shoot for a feature in a local anime magazine. Our cosplaying careers took off from there.”

Alodia has since crossed to bigger ponds, judging cosplay competitions in Jakarta, Dubai, and L.A. in the last few years.

She flies regularly to Japan where she seems involved in everything kawaii (cute), from designing dog clothes for the company that does Hello Kitty to starring in a wala lang kind of video series to endorsing wigs to posing for magazine covers. She now maintains an apartment in the posh and fashionable Shibuya district.

Alodia, who is also an artist, pianist and photographer, recently signed with 12 Stone Records as a recording artist.

Here, she exclusively tells Yahoo about some of her raddest cosplay looks.
